Akonua means the stool.
The name comes from the Twi word akonwa: stool, seat, throne. In Asante culture, the Golden Stool holds the soul of a nation. Every family stool holds a story too: who sat there, what they carried, and what they handed down.
Akonua started with a simple feeling. So many of us in the diaspora carry Ghana in our hearts but don't always get to wear it in a way that feels like us. Not costume, not clip art. Something with meaning, made well, that starts a conversation.
Every symbol is a proverb.
Adinkra symbols come from the Akan people of Ghana. Each one carries a piece of wisdom. Sankofa tells you to go back and fetch what you forgot. Adinkrahene stands for leadership. Nkyinkyim reminds you that life's road twists and you keep walking anyway. We draw every design from scratch and print it in gold, because these ideas deserve to be worn with pride.
Made for you, not for a warehouse.
Every Akonua tee is printed when you order it, on a soft Bella+Canvas 3001 shirt. That means less waste, and a shirt that was made with your name on the order.
For the diaspora, and everyone who answered the call.
Whether you were born in Kumasi, raised in Houston, or found your way to Ghana during the Year of Return, there's a seat for you here. Akwaaba. Welcome home.
